Collage education is not for all
Reflecting on the past, there was a significant push for young people to pursue higher education with the promise that a college degree would open doors to high-paying jobs. This narrative led many to believe that they didn't need to engage in manual labor or trades. However, not everyone is suited for college, and several individuals now find themselves burdened with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans.
In contrast, the trades offer viable alternatives, often providing better starting wages with considerably less debt. For many, the trades present a more practical and financially sound career path.
While I support student debt relief for some individuals, I believe it's essential to recognize that not everyone should be burdened by a blanket policy. The government's role in advocating for higher education without equally promoting trade vocations has contributed to this issue. Therefore, a more balanced approach is needed, acknowledging the value of both higher education and trades.
